A couple of months ago, Gavin had a really scary dream that
a big snake was trying to eat him. The
next night, he came down stairs crying because he was so scared. Being the
awesome Mom that she is, Heather took this opportunity to teach Gavin about
snakes and how they are really nothing to be afraid of. As a result, Gavin discovered 2 loves. One of his favorite shows now is Jeff
Corwin. More importantly, he is WAY into
snakes right now. He’s been checking out
snake books at the library, and he was really excited to go into the snake
house at the St Louis Zoo. We also got
see a super fun show called snake encounters at the library.
I’ve been wanting to do a project with Gavin that would
challenge him and help him learn something new. I decided to use this new
interest in snakes. Together, we did a research project using the books he got
from the library and of course, Google. We put together a power point
presentation. I am so impressed with how quickly he learned power point. He
learned all sorts of tricks at age 6 that many grown ups do not know. He uses
copy/paste with ease and can add word art to his presentation. Not only can he
add word art, but he can format it to change color or add glow to the text. I’m
so proud of my little guy, and I did not anticipate just how into the project
he would. I expected us to work on it over the course of a few weeks. He had so
much fun that we finished in one weekend. After we finished, Gavin practiced
his presentation several times. After
rehearsing, he was ready to give his presentation to Mom, Ethan, Grandma
Marcie, and Grandpa Bob.
Wow! Gavin just finished his presentation, and man, did he
do fantastic. He even fielded questions like a pro. Take a look for yourself. Click HERE to see Gavin deliver his presentation, and check out the power point by clicking the picture on the right.
